The Unknown

If God has the intention to strengthen us and for us to prosper in this life, then why do the things He does fail to make sense at times? Why do we suffer heart break and anxiety and confusion about the road ahead or maybe even the road we’re on? Why is there no manual, handbook, or guidelines to follow so that we may avoid the obstacles life throws at us time and time again? There are so many questions left unanswered… but that’s the way it’s meant to be.

If God handed you the perfect life on a silver platter, why would you think you need him? If He rid you of all discomfort and uncertainty, why would you lean on Him for strength? If He laid out His plan before you, so that you would know every twist, turn, trial, and triumph, why would there be a need to have faith in the one who created you?

The unknowns around us are unknown for a reason. We, God’s beloved children, are called to live by faith and not by sight. We’re supposed to trust and rely on the Heavenly Father because he is good and He has nothing but the BEST intentions for your life.

Hebrews 11:1 – “Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see.”

Throughout Hebrews 11, it talks about those who accomplished unthinkable things simply by having faith:

  • Abel, by faith, brought a better offering than Cain and was blessed by God.
  • Noah, by faith, constructed a massive ark and proceeded to round up animals – 2 by 2 – and corralled them onto his giant boat so that when God brought the flood He had promised, Noah, his family, and those animals would survive.
  • Abraham, by faith, offered up his own son as an offering to God, and because of that, Isaac and Abraham were blessed.
  • Moses, by faith, grew up to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. He parted the Red Sea with his staff, and he led the Israelites to safety – free from the control of Pharaoh.
They all trusted that God would be on their side through anything and everything the world threw into their path, and because of that, they found success in each of their journeys.

The road to unshakeable faith is a long, tiresome trek, and you won’t reach the goal in a day. Trusting God whole-heartedly comes with time, and an intentional desire for Him. I struggle every single day to put aside my own fleshly desires, and a lot of the time, I fail. When things don’t go the way I think they should, I react in the most worldly ways possible. I get upset, overwhelmed, and I begin to question why in the world are things the way they are. I ask myself how could this possibly be happening because “this isn’t how it’s supposed to be.” But who am I to tell God He’s doing it wrong? Who am I to say – thanks, but no thanks? Despite the questions I may have, I am in no position to be angry at the way God’s plan is unravelling. The Father knew the moment he created Adam that his children would get tired, lonely, and scared in the lives we would lead. He knew we would need the assurance that even though we don’t know everything, there’s someone greater than us who has everything figured out. In His word, it’s written plainly that there’s an ultimate plan greater than anything we could possibly imagine and all we have to do is trust in the Lord.

Because of God’s love and Jesus Christ, we’ve already been equipped with the Grace of God that covers over all of our sins. We’ve overcome the world because Christ overcame the world. We’re on the path to victory – there’s no room for doubt. The unknown is a beautiful thing because where uncertainty lies, there the plan of the Father is already coming into play.

“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith. ” ~ 1 John 5:4
