Okay, so I spend too much a lot of time on Instagram. [For those of you who aren’t super read-in on social media, Instagram is basically just all of your friends posting pictures of their coffee, the sunset, quotes, and, of course, selfies.] I mean, I just really like to keep up with what my friends (and sometimes people I don’t even know) are doing. Yeah, when I put it like that, it may sound a little weird, but I can assure you I’m not alone. Instagram is a big thing.
Something about Instagram that is both a blessing and a curse is the constant creation of trends. There are countless ‘hashtags’ for days of the week like #WomanCrushWednesday and #ThrowbackThursday, and sometimes just random ones that catch on for a few days like #NationalEmbarrassYourBestFriendDay (no, it’s not an actual holiday and yes, many people participated… including myself…) No one knows where they start, but we all jump on board as soon as it seems like the cool thing to do. I don’t know what it is that is so enticing about participating in the insta-crowd, but hey, I do it anyways.
One of the most recent trends circulating Instagram was people posting their favorite Bible verses and tagging their friends to do the same. I know what you’re thinking – young people spreading the Word of God in today’s twisted world – crazy! What I think many people don’t understand about my generation is that, yes, there are many who pull away from the Lord and who search for happiness in the world… but we are also a generation on fire for the Lord. I have been to countless events with other Christians my age and have seen and experienced the love so many of us have for Christ. I’ve seen other youth move adults to tears with their testimonies; I’ve seen teenagers preach like they were born to do it. In the last few days alone, thousands and thousands of pictures were posted by young people proclaiming the Word of God for all of their ‘followers’ to see. IS THAT COOL OR IS THAT COOL?! The thing is, regardless of why we were posting on Instagram… even if it was just for the ‘likes’… we were doing it. We were uniting in the name of Jesus… we were make the Truth known. We were making it happen.
I was nominated by a friend and got sidetracked so I never posted my verse, so I figured what better place to share my favorite than here with all of you? I also realized that it’s super hard to pick just one, but the one I kept coming back to was:
“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So whether we live or we die, we belong to the Lord.” Romans 14:8
I love this because what it boils down to is that it doesn’t matter what you’re doing. It doesn’t matter if you’re living or dying. Chasing after the Lord or running away. Pursuing the world or embracing your Savior. No matter where you are or what you’re doing, you belong to the Lord and He can set you free.
