Ready or Not, Here it Comes

I could probably write about graduation and the end of senior year 100 times and 100 different ways… It’s like every day something new hits me.

In the past four years, I have taken 24 classes at Fort Walton Beach High School and I have attended (give or take…) 720 days of school. Every morning I roll out of bed at 7:00, get dressed, run downstairs at the last minute, and drive hurriedly to school. It is a routine I have come to know and love tolerate. Today, though, as the monotony of my morning schedule began, something was noticeably different. It hit me: this is the last time I’ll do this. Today was the last time. Today, May 26, 2015, I attended my last class as a high school student, and I’m really not sure I was ready for it…

Okay, sure, if we’re being honest, it wasn’t the last time I was ever going to walk into Fort Walton Beach High School, I know that. But it was the last time I walked in for 2nd period AP Psychology – it was the last time I walked in to go to class at all. Today, was a definite end that at times I thought would never come.  Despite the fact that I haven’t quite graduated yet, a big chapter of my life ended today.

Recently I’ve been struggling with what to do once it was all over. Although I have been saying all year that I “can’t wait to graduate,” the closer I get, the more worry sets in. Am I old enough for this? Can I really handle college and life on my own? Am I ready for this next step?? The only answer I’ve come up with is that I don’t know and that’s okay.

In reality, life is like one of those amusement park people movers. Regardless of whether you take it in stride or plant your feet in protest, it never stops moving forward. Never.
So am I ready to be done with high school?? I don’t know.
Am I ready to graduate and move away from home? I don’t know.
Am I ready for sweet endings, big changes, and brand new beginnings? I don’t know.

But what I do know is that whether I’m ready or not, life is coming… So I might as well enjoy the ride.
